DO YOU KNOW COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS'S MYTHS AND REALITIES

Yes! Most of the questions in the competitive examination are not difficult. Still, they are different, and they require a different approach, a different mindset, and that's why it is a different individual who clears these examinations. Before we talk more about how to succeed in these different examinations, it is essential to understand how they are different from board exams.

  BOARD EXAMS VS COMPETITIVE EXAMS

  • Inboards exams, the focus is on concepts, whereas in competitive exams, the focus is on applying concepts to real-life situations. The board exam test whether you know the fundamentals or not, whereas competitive exams are designed that you can apply these fundamentals to real-life situations or not.
  • Inboard exams, good writing, and presentation skills are essential, whereas competitive exams emphasize not your writing skills but the understanding of fundamentals and their applications.

  • Board exams are filtered below-average students (who can't more than 33% marks) from good and average students. In contrast, competitive exams are designed to filter excellent students (who can score more than 75% marks and are among the top 3 to 4 %age students) from the average ones.

  • Inboards exams, absolute marks are important (% marks scored), whereas, in competitive exams, relative marks/percentile rank is important (it is not important whether you score 80 % or 90%  but what is important is how many students have scored more than you). Normally to succeed in competitive exams is your percentile rank has to be more than 95%.

Also, many students miss just one, two, or three marks in competitive exams. This is the most important difference between competitive exams and board exams. Inboard exams, you will say that two students getting 88% and 87% are equally intelligent and successful. But in the case of competitive exams, success and failure are just one mark away. So what makes competitive exams different (not difficult) is the cut-throat competition for the limited seats.

And last but not least: The Time Pressure.

Competitive Exams are often understood as a selection process, but in a real sense, it is nothing but an elimination technique. The basic objective of the test is to filter Excellent Candidate From average ones. In a Competitive exam, it is not important that whether you know the question or not and solve the question or not, but what is important is whether you can solve the question in the shortest time. So your success in competitive exams depends upon your approach towards these questions. That is how you attack these questions because that defines the time you would take to solve the questions.
