Top 7 ways to wash raw vegetables

1. Water

The first thing you should do when washing vegetables is used lots of water and make sure to scrub them thoroughly. You should never rinse a vegetable under water; this only removes any natural oils that were previously present. If you have chosen not to peel your veggies before eating them, then don't worry about peeling them after washing. Vegetables can be stored in the refrigerator for several days after being washed.

2. Salt

Salt is known for its antimicrobial properties and this makes it perfect for cleansing food. When washing fresh fruits and vegetables, sprinkle salt over them until they feel slightly salty. Once done rinsing, pat dry off the excess moisture and store away in the fridge. Remember to always add salt at the end of the cooking process, since it tends to take longer to cook than other ingredients.

3. Vinegar

Vinegar is great for cleaning off dirt and grime from produce. Mix 1/4 cup vinegar with some warm water and rub it onto your produce. Use caution when using vinegar, however; the acidity level may damage your skin if you get in contact with it.

4. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is best used either before or after washing your produce. To clean produce, mix lemon juice with warm water and stir around the inside of the produce. Rinse with cold water and pat dry.

5. Baking Soda

Baking soda is a great way to remove odors from your kitchen sink. Simply place baking soda in your sink and let sit for a few minutes. Afterward, run hot water through the sink and flush out the baking soda.

6. Dish Soap

Dish soap can help cut down on bacteria in your home. If you're worried about using dish soap, try mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water together and spraying it onto your dishes. Let sit overnight and then rinse with boiling water.

7. Citrus Oil

Citrus oil can be used to disinfect items that are difficult to clean. Simply apply citrus oil to your hands and then rub the item you want to disinfect. Do not ingest citrus oil!
